These photos were taken on a recent trip to Middleton, Arizona, which is the site of an old mining settlement near Cleater. While most of the homes and foundations have been removed from the site, there are still traces of occupation visible including some vertical mine shafts, abandoned cars and tailing piles scattered throughout the area. Our group was looking for old mine shafts in the area and noticed that most of them were either flooded out or were razed before the settlers left. We encountered one good site to explore, but noticed that the entranceway was way too steep to access so we left it alone and headed out to explore a wash at the base of the mountain which was trickling with runoff from the snowy mountains overhead.
