apache trail

These photos were taken on a recent trip to the Superstition Mountains, east of apache Junction, Arizona. We took AZ Route 88 Eastbound from Phoenix through this area and crossed the Apache Trail through the Mountains, then to Globe and back around to Phoenix. While the trip was around 6 hours or so, our hiking group encountered a nice variety of weather and lighting conditions to photograph as well as some spectacular views from the trail. Legend has it that settlers were attacked by Indian tribes while crossing this trail by covered wagon and there were a number of skirmishes between tribe warriors and US settlers in this area. Supposedly, the Lost Dutchman mine is also in these mountains, though I couldn't find any mine shafts listed on my GPS topographic program.
